A new genus and species of Lasiopteridi (Diptera, Cecidomyiidae) on Haplopappus foliosus (Asteraceae) from Chile Rev. Bras. entomol.
Maia,Valéria Cid; Villagra,Cristian A..
ABSTRACT A new genus and species of gall midge, Haplopappusmyia gregaria, is described and illustrated (larva, pupa, male, and female). This species induces apical galls on Haplopappus foliosus (Asteraceae), an endemic shrub from central Chile. The specimens were collected at La Ligua Municipality, Petorca Province, Valparaiso region, Chile, during spring of 2011-2014. This area corresponds to one of the fifth Mediterranean Matorral biome, considered among Earth's biodiversity hotspots. The new genus is characterized by presenting lateral margin of antennal scape with a mesal reentrance; four-segmented palpus, one-toothed tarsal claws, R5 straight, reaching C anterior to wing apex; male seventh and eighth tergites lacking sclerotization mesally, beyond...

Maia,Valéria Cid; Fernandes,G. Wilson; Oliveira,Lázaro A..
Bruggmanniella doliocarpi, a new galling species associated with Doliocarpus dentatus (Dilleniaceae) is described and illustrated (male, female, pupa, larva and gall) based on material from Minas Gerais, Brazil. The new species is compared to the other known Neotropical species. This is the first report of Bruggmanniella for Minas Gerais and in association with Dilleniaceae.

A new species of Clinodiplosis Kieffer (Diptera, Cecidomyiidae) associated with Cecropia sp. (Urticaceae) in Brazil Pap. Avulsos de Zool. (São Paulo)
Proença,Barbara; Maia,Valéria Cid.
Abstract Clinodiplosis cecropiae Proença & Maia a new species of Cecidomyiidae (Insecta: Diptera) is described and illustrated herein (larva, pupal exuviae, male and female). Samples of gall and host plant were collected in Amazon Rainforest areas, in Monte Negro municipality, Rondônia state, Brazil. The galler was obtained by rearing in laboratory and the specimens were mounted on microscope slides. The type material is deposited in the Cecidomyiidae collection of Museu Nacional/Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro. The new species induces globoid galls on leaf petiole of Cecropia sp. (Urticaceae). This is the first record of a Clinodiplosis species inducing galls on Urticaceae plants.

Proença,Barbara; Maia,Valéria Cid.
Abstract Youngomyia matogrossensis Proença & Maia a new species of Cecidomyiidae (Insecta: Diptera) that induces cylindrical hairy galls on leaves of Pouteria torta (Mart.) Radlk. (Sapotaceae) is herein described and illustrated (larvae, pupal exuviae, male and female). The galler, gall and host plant were collected at Parque Nacional da Chapada dos Guimarães, in the state of Mato Grosso (Brazil). New morphological data and photographs of pupal exuviae, male and female of Youngomyia pouteriae Maia, 2001 are also provided.

Anatomical and developmental aspects of leaf galls induced by Schizomyia macrocapillata Maia (Diptera: Cecidomyiidae) on Bauhinia brevipes Vogel (Fabaceae) Rev. Bras. Bot.
Sá,Camila Emiliane Mendes de; Silveira,Fernando A. O.; Santos,Jean C.; Isaias,Rosy Mary dos Santos; Fernandes,G. Wilson.
Samples of healthy leaves and galls induced by Schizomyia macrocapillata Maia on Bauhinia brevipes Vogel were submitted to routine techniques to investigate gall anatomy and development. Pouch galls are induced on the abaxial surface of unfolded immature leaves, and become spheroid with long reddish hairs covering their external surface. Galls occur isolated or coalesce when in larger numbers. Gall development was divided into six phases: 1) initiation; 2) tissue re-arrangement; 3) tissue differentiation; 4) maturation; 5) growth phase; and 6) dehiscence. This last phase corresponds to gall senescence, which takes place just after the larva exits the chamber to pupate. An important developmental phase of tissue reorientation was recorded after the...

Bruggmannia chapadensis sp. nov. (Diptera: Cecidomyiidae), a new midge inducing galls on Guapira pernambucensis (Nyctaginaceae) from the Parque Nacional da Chapada dos Guimarães, Mato Grosso State, Brazil Rev. Bras. Zool.
Proença,Barbara; Maia,Valéria Cid.
ABSTRACT Bruggmannia chapadensis sp. nov. is described and illustrated based on characters of the larva, pupa and adults of both sexes, from specimens collected in Cerrado areas of Parque Nacional da Chapada dos Guimarães, state of Mato Grosso, Brazil. The new species is characterized by tarsal claws bent at distal 1/3; well-developed empodia, not reaching the bend in claws; cerci rounded; hipoproct shorter than cerci; aedeagus with globose apex; gonostylus semicircular; ovipositor protrusible about 1.4 times longer than sternite 7; pupal antennal bases enlarged, conical, upper facial horns semicircular; prothoracic spiracle short, abdominal segments 2-8 with one row of dorsal spines; larval terminal segment elongate, with four setose terminal papillae....

Insect galls on Bauhinia cupulata (Fabaceae): morphotypes characterization and description of a new species of Schizomyia (Cecidomyiidae, Diptera) Rev. Bras. entomol.
Santos,Débora Santarém da Silva dos; Cid Maia,Valéria; Calado,Daniéla.
ABSTRACT Galls on Bauhinia cupulata (Fabaceae) were investigated in two physiognomies of the Cerrado, riparian and dry forest, in the municipality of Barreiras (Western Bahia, Brazil) from October 2012 to July 2014. Four insect gall morphotypes were found. They were characterized based on shape, color, indumentum, plant organ of occurrence and galling taxon. A new galling species, Schizomyia barreirensis, is described, illustrated (larva, pupa, male, female and gall) and compared to other Neotropical congeneric species.

Gall midge is a major problem in the upper Northern part, a glutinous rice line PRE04012-20-1-1-1 was derived from a single cross between Sahm Samai and PRE96011-SPT-1-2-2-1-1 since 2004. The farmer field trials had tested in 2011-2013. In the wet season the high potential yield was 1,043 kg/rai while the average yield was 703 kg/rai which is non significant different from 710 kg/rai of RD14 and 704 kg/rai of SPT1. In the dry season the high potential yield was 916 kg/rai while the average yield of PRE04012-20-1-1-1 and SPT1 were 714 kg/rai, but lower than RD14 (759 kg/rai) by 6 percent. The fertilizer test showed on the maximum yield of 780 kg/rai at the nitrogen level 20.4 kg. The line performed gall midge resistance (R-MS in green house, R-S in field...
